DECONSTRUCTION OF RESIDENTIAL HOUSES – SER METRO

DESCRIPTION

SER Metro Detroit awarded DMC a contract (NSP3 Deconstruction Program) to provide the demolition of properties, transport of materials to recycling centers, asbestos and air monitoring for 25 properties located on the area of Ecorse and River Rouge, Wayne County, Michigan. The NSP3 Deconstruction Program is an effort on behalf of Wayne County to promote workforce development and environmental responsibility through federally funded demolition and housing rehabilitation programs. The Program Partners include Wayne County EDGE, SER Metro-Detroit, and Southwest Housing Solutions. The community partners include the cities of Detroit, Ecorse, Hamtramck, Highland Park, and River Rouge. The Program will utilize and evaluate two separate workforce models for effectiveness and impact.

The Deconstruction Phase of the project included structural and non-structural deconstruction of residential units.

Non-Structural Deconstruction

  • Non-structural deconstruction involved removal for salvage/reuse of any building components or contents that are not a part of or whose removal is not dependent on the
  • Finish flooring appliances/mechanical, cabinetry, windows/doors, trim, fixtures/hardware, fireplace mantels.

Structural Deconstruction

  • Structural deconstruction involved removal for salvage/reuse of building components that are an integral part of the building or contribute to the structural integrity of the building. This project will encompass both forms of deconstruction. Please see the overview list below that more clearly defines deconstruction.
  • Dissembling a structure to salvage the structural building components such as beams, joist and brick. Materials are typically large, rough products that are to be reused as building materials or remanufactured into value added products such as chairs, tables, and surface coverings.
  • Framing, Sheathing, Roof Systems, Brick/Masonry, wood timbers/beams, wood rafters, floor joist systems.
